A century after women were first elected to Parliament in Finland, women are now a majority of the cabinet ministers - April 19, 2007 - In 1906, Finland was the first country to give women won the universal right to vote and run for office. In the elections in 2007, 19 women were elected to parliament. Now, 100 years later, for the first time, a majority of the cabinet ministers in Finland are women.  Of the 20 members in Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen's new cabinet, 12 are women including five from his own Centre Party.
